Theresa Deisher, Ph.D.
President

Dr. Theresa Deisher is President and founder of SCPI.  “Tracy’s” leadership has brought together a cadre of successful start-up advisors, consultants, legal, policy, regulatory, financial, business development and communications professionals to build a cohesive business plan and the infrastructure that would successfully launch their mission and vision. Dr. Deisher’s knowledge and experience in all levels of biomedical management, project leadership, clinical and scientific research is a perfect fit for the needs of a new biotechnology corporation.  She not only understands the commercial applications and business of science but also the marketing, financial, regulatory and policy of clinical applications.

Dr. Deisher is an internationally renowned expert in the field of adult stem cell therapies and regenerative medicine, bringing 17 years of practice in senior scientific and corporate leadership positions concerning research, discovery, production and commercialization of human therapeutics. Tracy has earned numerous prestigious honors and awards for her pioneering scientific discovery and her distinguished scientific research has resulted in 23 patents issued in her name with such illustrious biotech organizations as Amgen, where she was named Principal Scientist, ZymoGenetics, Repligen and Immunex. 

Dr. Deisher’s discoveries, particularly in the fields of cardiovascular biology and stem cell research, continue to be considered some of the most significant in the scientific community, including her initial discovery and identification of adult heart stem cells. She has published numerous scientific manuscripts as well as materials for lay people on the factual aspects of adult stem cell research successes.  Dr. Deisher is often sought out for her candid and rational look at the scientific research that is being done in the field of regenerative medicine and stem cell research and is a frequent international lecturer and guest speaker in the area of stem cell technology and regenerative medicine. 
Dr. Deisher graduated with honors and distinction from Stanford University, and obtained her Ph.D. in Molecular and Cellular Physiology from Stanford University

 

Christopher P. Brown
Vice President

Christopher Brown, as one of the original founders of SCPI, has taken on leadership and oversight for finance and business operations, as well as international project management and licensing. Chris works with SCPI ’s financial advisors and legal teams to develop business strategies and to provide the most accurate information to our investors, partners and supporters. Additionally Brown researches and analyzes potential new business prospects that may present significant opportunities to be incorporated into our long term strategic business plan. Chris brings over 20 years of strong leadership and executive management experience including many aspects of finance, sales, strategic analysis and operations with both Fortune 100 and start-up companies funded by venture capital.

Mr. Brown’s numerous career accomplishments include executive management, financial consulting, training, education, risk management, asset allocation, sales and investment strategies for a variety of industries including international manufacturing, venture capital, technology and finance. Included among his many business development accomplishments are building strong sales and marketing plans, channel sales opportunities, process and procedural analysis and the direction and oversight of investment teams who were responsible for annual financial decisions in excess of $2.6 billion.  Chris’ strategic work flow analysis was instrumental in increased employee production, streamlined operations and a significant production cost reduction. His experience will help guide the business implementation, financial considerations and strategies for both the short term business model and the long term projects.

Mr. Brown has had an extensive volunteer career serving his community and currently provides management experience, strategic development and consulting to two nonprofit organizations – Consoling Communities and Consoling Grace. Mr. Brown graduated from Seattle University with a degree in Finance.


 

Marissa LaMadrid, Ph.D.
Principal Scientist


Dr. Marissa LaMadrid, a physicist, is responsible for building the platforms of education, research, and technology integration for SCPI.  Dr. LaMadrid has over 20 years of exceptionally broad-based expertise in the areas of condensed matter physics, biophysics, genomics, microbiology, software engineering, bioinformatics and stem cell research.

Dr. LaMadrid has held fellowships in the Physics and Applied Physics Departments at Caltech, and in the Physiology, Biophysics, and Genome Science Departments at the University of Washington. Her physics research involved  ultra-high resolution thermodynamic measurements that led to the discovery of previously unobserved phase transitions in growing thin films. Her applied physics work contributed to the development of bulk metallic glasses, materials that behave like liquid metals. Her biology-based research involved 1) developing novel methods and instrumentation for studying muscle contraction and cardiac disease at the single molecule level, 2) creating new algorithms for sensitive genomic data analysis and 3) finding novel stem cell binding receptors.

Dr. LaMadrid also volunteers towards science education in Seattle schools through talks, demonstrations, liaison work, and science fair judging.

Dr. LaMadrid has authored or co-authored 18 publications on a broad range of topics spanning physics and biology. She received a B.S. in Physics, cum laude, from the University of the Philippines and an M.S. and Ph.D in Physics from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.

 

Gail M. Romero, CFRE
Senior Vice President

Gail Romero is responsible for developing and integrating strategic alliances with policy makers, medical and scientific communities, media, academics, investors, politicians, community leaders and corporations. As part of the executive management team and founders she facilitates the advisors, consultants, scientists and management team to provide and enhance the necessary framework to continue their efforts in providing safe, effective, affordable and ethical medicines and human therapeutic treatments. Gail will be concentrating on policy briefings, national media awareness, and financial support and building strategies to grow SCPI.

Ms. Romero most recently came to SCPI while working with her own firm – MacKenzie-Romero Consulting as the CEO and President where she represented such notables as Nobel Peace Prize Nominee – Rural Development Institute and finalist for the Hilton Humanitarian Award among other distinguished international organizations.  With over 30 years of international, business development, public relations, consulting and investment relations experience in the commercial and independent sectors she has worked on behalf of organizations that have positively impacted the world through stronger policies, procedures and innovative concepts. 

Her area of expertise has been to build organizations through strategic business and marketing plans, alliances and strong communication campaigns. Her efforts have been instrumental in improving a variety of organizations strategic business outcomes, messaging, and effectiveness and have raised over $100 million in financial resources to accomplish tactical conclusions. Romero’s work has garnered noteworthy media attention and includes numerous published works, presentations, training films, film productions and award winning campaigns.

Ms. Romero currently serves on the Advisory Council for Seattle University’s Albers School of Business and Economics, Advisory Council for iLEAP, visiting professor at several universities, business director for LAI and sits as Judge for the Global Social Entrepreneurs Competition at the University of Washington.  She is a Paul Harris Fellow, member of Rotary International, Media Communications Association International, Association of Fundraising Professionals, Leader to Leader Institute and Women Business Owners Association. Gail is a graduate of Northpark University’s Graduate School of Nonprofit Management and University of Wisconsin’s Madison School of Business, Madison Institute. She received her CFRE confirmation in 2005.
